commercial equipment purchase for construction project
– new district court, whanganui
Construction is underway for 5000sqm courthouse being built alongside a new police station as part of a modern, “justice precinct” in central Whanganui. Our client, Naylor Love, is responsible for delivering the project along with other partners, working with Whanganui iwi, New Zealand Police, Ministry of Justice and Whanganui District Council.
With the success of the build reliant on having the right equipment available at the right time, exploring all options—from hire to lease to commercial equipment purchase— was essential to meeting the agreed deliverables and timeframes of the project. RES Management provided expertise to assist with evaluating available pathways, ultimately resulting in sourcing and purchase of a telehandler to support the project.
The Challenge

We were recently engaged by one of our key customers to support a high-priority construction project in Whanganui. The success of the job hinged on securing a reliable Telehandler—a critical piece of equipment essential for maintaining workflow on-site. Our brief was clear: identify the most suitable machine that would meet specific technical requirements while staying within the client’s budget. This was more than just a rental request—it was a strategic commercial equipment purchase decision with long-term impact.
Risk ASSEssment
Delays in sourcing the right telehandler could compromise the project schedule and can lead to increased labour costs. Selecting the wrong model or investing in unreliable used equipment could cause costly downtime, safety issues, or future maintenance headaches. Given the scale of the operation, every day without the correct machinery could affect productivity and project delivery timelines.
Our solution
RES MANAGEMENT ACTED AS AGENT TO SOURCE, SUPPLY, DELIVER and deploy the telehandler for the project
To deliver the best value, our team conducted a comprehensive analysis of all available acquisition pathways, including short-term hire, lease-to-own arrangements, and outright commercial equipment purchase (both new and used). We considered:
Project duration and equipment usage frequency
Long-term cost implications
On-site performance needs
Warranty and service support options
After careful evaluation, we recommended a commercial equipment purchase of a high-performing used Telehandler that was fully compliant with the client's operational specs and financial goals. Our procurement team managed the sourcing, quality checks, and delivery logistics to ensure everything was in place without delay.
RESULTS:
The selected Telehandler has now been deployed to the Whanganui site and is actively supporting the build. The equipment is performing reliably, and our client has peace of mind knowing it was a smart investment—not just for this project but for future jobs as well. This successful commercial equipment purchase highlights our commitment to delivering tailored, cost-effective solutions that keep our clients' projects running on time and within budget.
