Our customer was tasked with removing deteriorated sealant from the glass panels above the atrium at the Majestic Centre—one of Wellington’s busiest commercial buildings. As skilled abseilers conducting maintenance work, they required a safety solution that allowed continuity of operations and business.
The atrium is located directly above a high-traffic, public access area, so there was a significant concern about falling debris posing a risk to pedestrian safety and disrupting access to the building.
The solution also needed to be cost-effective, such that it that wouldn’t require after-hours work or expensive site shutdowns.
Site-Specific Risks:
The unique challenge at this site was the height and exposure of the work zone above a busy public space. Standard access methods would typically involve full public exclusion zones or performing the work outside of business hours—both of which would significantly increase costs and timeframes.

To address the challenge, we provided a custom-designed safety solution to support maintenance access. This included the strategic installation of safety netting and scrim beneath the work area, fully enclosing it to prevent any debris from falling into public spaces. The system was quick to install, required no structural modifications, and integrated seamlessly with existing equipment.
RESULTS:
Thanks to our tailored netting and scrim install, our customer was able to carry out the sealant removal safely and efficiently during normal business hours for their client. There were no safety incidents, no disruption to foot traffic or tenants, and no need for costly after-hours shifts.
